The City of Cape Town is partnering with Miss Universe and Miss South Africa to welcome Zozibini Tunzi to the Mother City and celebrate her triumph on the world stage.
Cape Town is ready to welcome Miss Universe this Friday in a fitting display of colour and dance, courtesy of the Cape Town Carnival.
‘As the people of Cape Town, it will truly be a privilege to host Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi in the Mother City - a place she called home during her time as a student at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. Ms Tunzi’s impressive win on an international stage and her work to raise awareness about social issues such as gender-based violence has been an inspiration to many South Africans.
‘I look forward to meeting a young woman who sincerely cares about using her influence to help others. I would like to encourage Capetonians to come out in their numbers in the streets of the CBD to give our Miss Universe a proper Mother City welcome. We hope Zozi’s accomplishment will motivate others, particularly young women, to aspire to great heights and take the South African success story to the rest of the world. On behalf of the City of Cape Town, I wish our Miss Universe well in her work and may her reign continue to be an inspiration to all the world over,’ said the Executive Mayor, Alderman Dan Plato.
The celebrations will kick off at City Hall and on the Grand Parade from 10:00 on Friday, 14 February 2020. Route details:City Hall along Darling Street

Residents and motorists are advised to please take note of the temporary road closures that will be in place in the city centre: Parade Street will be closed to traffic from 6:00 on Friday 14 February 2020
Darling Street between Buitenkant and Corporation streets from 8:00 to 11:30 on Friday 14 February.
There will also be rolling road closures as Miss Universe’s float procession moves in the city
